Director of Health Services
About the Role:
The Director of Health Services (DHS) oversees the delivery, quality, and supervision of nursing and supportive services within the Assisted Living community. This role is responsible for hiring, training, and managing nursing staff, as well as ensuring adequate staffing coverage and high standards of care. The DHS also manages departmental resources, including supplies and equipment, while maintaining operations within budget and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Oversight: Develop, organize, and manage nursing and supportive services for Assisted Living and Extended Care. Establish and maintain standards of care, policies, and procedures to ensure high-quality service.
Resident Care Coordination: Monitor resident services, coordinate with external providers, and collaborate with consultants to assess and meet resident needs.
Staff Management: Plan staffing levels, recruit and train nursing personnel, and maintain duty assignments to ensure 24-hour coverage and quality care.
Documentation & Compliance: Oversee resident care documentation for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA.
Care Planning & Assessment: Develop and oversee individualized care plans, conduct pre-admission assessments, and maintain communication with residents, families, physicians, and staff.
Training & Education: Partner with HR to ensure staff maintain valid licenses and complete required in-service education. Coordinate ongoing training to keep clinical skills current.
Resident Engagement: Encourage participation in social and recreational activities and conduct regular apartment visits to ensure safety and quality of care.
Financial Management: Manage departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, review operating statements, and address variances.
On-Call Duties: Participate in on-call rotation, including weekends and after-hours support, and serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled.
Health & Safety Protocols: Implement emergency response plans, ensure staff training, and collaborate with Food Services to meet residents’ dietary needs.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the state of Texas.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in geriatric nursing, with at least two (2) years of nursing administration experience preferred. Membership in geriatric professional organizations is a plus.
Skills: Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR), strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to analyze and use data to support decision-making.
